How to create a Metamask wallet?

A crypto wallet is defined as means of storing private keys and holding cryptocurrencies. There are different types of crypto wallets available for the user from hot wallets, and cold wallets, to hardware wallets, software wallets, etc.

Today, we’ll be looking at one of the most famous hot wallets - Metamask, and how to create a Metamask wallet.

What is Metamask?

With over a million downloads, Metamask is a type of hot wallet supported on the Ethereum blockchain that allows users to access the world of web3 which includes sending & receiving cryptocurrencies, trading NFTs, and using decentralized applications (dApps) to name a few. It is one of the most accessible and user-friendly wallets which is available as a browser extension. It acts as a bridge between the current web2 world and the web3 world.

Steps to create a Metamask wallet

Step 1 - In order to create the Metamask wallet, go on to https://metamask.io/, and select the option to download and install as per your preferred device. The Metamask wallet supports browsers such as Chrome, Brave Browser, & Microsoft Edge, and android & iOS.

Step 2 - Once it is installed, click on the Metamask wallet extension to get started. Either you can create a new account or can use the existing one.

Step 3 - In order to create a new wallet, click on “create wallet” and select “I agree” to proceed with the process. Following this, create a password for your account. One needs to create a strong password so that the account doesn’t get compromised easily.

Step 4 - Once this is done, click on “Click here to reveal secret words”. It’s a 12-word long seed phrase that is required to be stored safely. If this is lost, come what may, Metamask will not be to help to get it recovered. Just like the bank PIN, the seed phrase is not required to be shared with anyone.

Step 5 - Click on “Next” to proceed further and confirm your seed phrase by putting them in the correct order as you’ve noted previously. Click “Confirm” to proceed ahead.

And it’s done. Congratulations. Your Metamask wallet has been created. To access the wallet, click on the right-hand top corner of the browser. One needs to log in via the account password and the “private key”.

Tips to Keep Your Metamask Wallet Secured

• Don’t share your seed phrase with anyone. It’s a gateway to the crypto assets that you hold.
• As there are high chances of hacks, keep an eye while logging and signing transactions. Use wallet only on trusted platforms.
• Avoid using your wallet on public/shared computers. Also, check the internet connection network over which the information is being shared.
• Keep your account logged out when not in use.
• As Metamask is a browser extension, keep your extensions cleaned and protected. Some extensions record the happenings on the screen and keyboard
